about

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Dennis Thomas aka King Kong recorded his first tune ‘Pink Eye’ as a deejay at Tuff Gong studios in 1982 under the name Junior Kong. He worked with GT and then his own Love Bunch sound system and then recorded for King Tubby's Firehouse label. His first album release was split with another of Tubby's singers, Anthony Red Rose, with Two Big Bull Inna One Pen issued on Firehouse.

King Kong recorded for several of Jamaica's top producers, including King Jammy’s, Black Scorpio, Harry J, Errol Thompson, Ossie Hibbert, Bunny Lee, and Prince Jazzbo. While many of his songs were typical in content of the era, several of his songs had political and cultural themes, “Rocky Road” tune is one of them. The song was recorded at Channel One studio on Maxfield Avenue, Kingston and produced by his friend Keith Campbell. The first imprint was released in 1986 on the one shot label “Fresh Roses”. The version is backed by the great “Upsetters/Wailers” bass player Aston “Family Man” Barrett. After Jamaica, King Kong lived in New York, Canada and England. Few years ago he’ve made his repatriation and have his home in Shashamane, the Oromia’s land in Ethiopia offered by Haile Selassie to the rastafari community.
