A few years before the international hit “Uptown Top Ranking” made her a household name, Althea Forrest (without Donna) recorded “Hey Mister” for famous producer (and singer) Derrick Harriott. The best reggae-soul producer in Jamaica in the mid seventies, Harriott masterminded a plethora of US soul covers with Jamaican artists in the booth, dominating the international airwaves in the process.
“Hey Mister” was recorded at Federal studios (Tuff Gong nowadays) and failed to get either an international or national audience, probably because it was not a cover! "Hey Mister" is a killer reggae disco beat for party jam: boasting block party percussion, bubbling bass, squelching synths and a mega piano part, all topped with Althea's sassy vocals about class differences. Now available on a Maxi vinyl 12'' for the first time since 1976, "Hey Mister" is back with the finest sound quality around.
